Jeffrey Lisandro captures his second bracelet of the 2009 World Series of Poker to match Phil Ivey and Brock Parker who have also won two bracelets this year.
Lisandro won his first gold bracelet in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud event. The pros came out of the gate making final tables, and they continue to make a strong showing at the 2009 WSOP. Event 36: $2,000 No-Limit Hold'emJordan Smith hit a dream flop on his way to securing a gold bracelet. On the final hand, Ken Lennard raised to 300,000 and Smith called. The flop came 8-4-3 all diamonds and Lennard bet 350,000. Smith moved all-in and Lennard called. Smith had 9-7 of diamonds for a flopped flush and Lennard turned over J-8 with the jack of diamonds. Smith dodged another diamond and won $586,212 along with his first gold bracelet. Lennard would have to settle for second and $360,439 in prize money. Event 37: $10,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud 8 or BetterJeffrey Lisandro won the $10,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud 8 or Better tournament. Farzad Rouhani brought it in with a deuce and Lisandro completed. Rouhani raised, Lisandro reraised, Rouhani four-bet and Lisandro called. Both players checked fourth street. Lisandro bet on fifth street and Rouhani called. Lisandro had a pair of 10s showing, and Rouhani was unable to catch up. Lisandro pocketed $431,656 for his win while Rouhani won $266,804 for finishing second. Event 38: $2,000 Limit Hold'emOn the final hand of the $2,000 Limit Hold’em event, Marc Naalden raised on the button, Steven Cowley pushed all-in and Naalden called. Cowley showed A-5 and was ahead of Naalden’s Q-8. However, Naalden spiked a queen on the flop and Cowley was unable to regain the lead. Naalden walked away with $190,770 for his win. Cowley won $117,902 for his second-place finish. Event 39: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'emRay Foley navigated a field of over 2,700 players to win his first gold bracelet in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em event. On the final hand, Brandon Cantu raised to 305,000 preflop and Foley called. The flop came J-9-3 rainbow and Foley checked. Cantu fired out a bet of 450,000, Foley raised all-in and Cantu called. Foley showed Q-J for a pair of jacks. Cantu also had a pair of jacks, but had a seven kicker. The turn and river were no help to Cantu and Foley won. He received $657,969 for his win while Cantu won $403,951 for his efforts. Event 40: $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit OmahaVitaly Lunkin came within one person of capturing his second bracelet of this year’s World Series. However, Matt Graham would ultimately be crowned the $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit Omaha winner. On the last hand, Lunkin limped on the button and Graham checked. The flop came 10-6-4 with two diamonds. Graham checked, Lunkin bet 120,000, Graham raised 480,000 more and Lunkin called. A 9 of spades came on the turn. Graham bet 1,100,000, Lunkin went all-in and Graham insta-called. Lunkin turned over K-J-9-2 for a diamond flush draw and a gutshot straight draw. However, Graham was out in front with top set. The ace of spades sealed the win for Graham. He won $679,379 while Lunkin would have to settle for second place and $419,832. Event 41: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout (1,000 player max)On the final hand of the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout event, Peter Traply called Andrew Lichtenberger’s all-in preflop. Lichtenberger showed A-J, but was dominated by Traply’s A-K. The board failed to help Lichtenberger and Traply took down the tournament. He walked away with $348,728 in prize money. Lichtenberger received $215,403 for his second-place finish. Event 42: $2,500 Mixed EventThe game was No-Limit Hold’em. Sergey Altbregin limped from the button and Jerrod Ankenman called. The flop came 6-4-3 rainbow. Ankenman bet 50,000, Altbregin raised all-in and Ankenman called. Altbregin showed J-4 for a pair of fours, but Ankenman turned over 6-5 for a pair of fives. The seven on the turn gave Ankenman the straight. The river was no help to Altbregin. Ankenman pocketed $241,367 in prize money. Altbregin walked away with $149,342 for finishing in second.
